December 2009 News Letter

What a fabulous time of year - for children!  Lets face it, the cooks in the home however have a very busy time.  This year I've opted for a no stress meal of brined turkey done 2 days ahead, simple raw salad dishes including raw sprouted quinoa and cranberry salad and plenty of quality time with my girls, and what better place to do that than in the kitchen!

This time of year we venture into what I endearingly call 'Sludge Land'  A mix of acidosis from the overindulgence of sugar and a major immune response frenzy from too much dairy, fruits mixed with proteins (the fruit ferments) and in general - just too much food!   The tiredness after Christmas dinner is usually a combination of Trytophan from the turkey which, relaxes you, AND the body uses all it's energy trying to process the food !  My advice - have a long, long, long leisurely meal and enjoy each other and the conversation as much as the food!

Did you know that 70% of the energy you use in a day is spent digesting food?  We live in a culture where the average person eats more than twice the calories they need to be healthy, and where the foods they eat do not nourish them.  Hence we have an obese population suffering malnutrition!
So my big advice - start the day with raw food - lots of fruits and salads and plenty of water before hitting the rest!

Quality time with my girls at Christmas is spent getting creative in the kitchen together, making chocolate truffles, light and delicious Turkish Delight (so different from commercially made) and a vast range of Christmas Cookies, Baby Rose Meringues and Fresh Summer Fruit Salads, Our Agar Fruit Jelly is the best jelly in the world and doesn't require a fridge to set so it's perfect fro Christmas when the fridge is packed full.  Try my Christmas favourites on our website here.

Have a fabulous Festive Season!
Warmest wishes
